I've been a member of The Rock for 5 years and have really grown here. I would rate it 5 stars, but I'm worried about the changes happening. Pastor JR is amazing but is retiring (happy for him) and now his son, Pastor Mike, is taking over. Since Mike has taken on more responsibility, a lot is changing. We expect things to change and for not everyone to like it- you can't please everybody- but why fix what wasn't broken? The format of worship has changed from walking into worship to 25 minutes of announcements and extremely long winded prayers by Pastor Mike. He interrupts the flow of worship as well by stopping the band to pray right as we're in the midst of worshipping. The worship itself is incredible but I heard that they are leaving. Pastor Mike doesn't seem prepared for sermons and lacks structure; yet somehow he prattles on for 2 hours. His delivery isn't the greatest- speaks too soft, gets tongue tied- and sometimes we don't know what the message was or it changes. He has a much more denominational way of presenting things. The congregation didn't get to vote for who they'd like to take over and I think this is very unfair as we give to the church. So far, constructive criticism seems to fall on deaf ears. A few people asked for the speaking schedule for the next month and the admin wouldn't give it to them, saying it's about "kingdom family gathering" not a conference. Yes, people go to church to connect with others, but they also go to hear a structured message so they can relate it to their walk with the Lord and then help others. Further some just prefer certain pastors to others. We're starting to wonder what it will take for them to address these things, but they certainly don't seem to care.

Very powerful and uplifting. The presence of god is overwhelming and comforting at the same time.

The transition from Pastor JR retiring has been a rocky road. I love our worship band WATR, they are amazing. We have a great team of volunteers, missions leaders and youth pastors. Ever since Pastor Mike took over for his father Pastor JR who retired and who was amazing, things have been disappointing to say the least. For example, the Easter Sunday Service given by Pastor Mike was very disappointing. Not once did we talk about the resurrection of Jesus, which in my opinion is what people look forward to when they go to church on Easter. Instead Mike once again was unprepared, could not get his iPad to work. We listened to a bunch of random scriptures, which once again had nothing to do with Easter. We listened to our church motto and how what we do is not good enough as Christians, which seemed to much like a denominational church. We also listened to random stories from Mike and about parenting and his children. The service went over by an hour, which seems to be a growing trend unfortunately. If it works don't try to fix it, the way we used to do service worked just great, stick with what worked and don't change it. Have the band play several songs and lead us into worship, then do announcements, then offering, then introduce whomever is speaking and move forward with the message. Please be prepared and please deliver a message, one that can educate us, inspire us, help us in difficult times, make us want to be better Christians, drive us to help and give to others. People come to church for these reasons and much more. They do not give their time and money, too not receiving a message, have no voice and be told what to do. Mike I love you man and I am just trying to say what so many of us feel, but are too scared to say. We never expect you to be your father, but do expect as the lead Pastor for you to get it together, strive to be better and be prepared, or you are going to lose a lot of people that have been going to this church for a long time. Please pray for our church, our members and leaders alike!
